T’was the week before Christmas, when all through the house, all the creatures were stirring! Even the mouse! The stockings were hung by the Chimney with care. With hopes that they soon would be filled with with almost too much to bare! The children were nestled snug by my side while visions of my food danced in their heads.

Okay so it’s not the original poem but it seems fitting for the week before Christmas! By now we have hopefully gotten most of the decorations and presents sorted by now we are stuck with the almighty Christmas question…what do we feed everyone?

Trying not to break the diet over Chrstimas can be seriously challenging but there are some super simple treat ideas to follow that will not leave you doing the walk of shame into the gym after Christmas. 

Just remember the golden rule…substitute substitute substitute! Instead of cutting out your Christmas treats, just substitute them for a healthier version.

Breakfast

Instead of starting out with a big breakfast in the morning, go for a lighter alternative like Buckwheat or Almond Meal pancakes with fruit. They are healthy for you and will leave you feeling satisfied and ready for the big day ahead!

Lunch and Dinner

There are almost endless possibilities here! Some great ideas are;

  • Substitute ham for turkey
  • Instead of a slice or lemon meringue pie make an apple pie or mixed berry tart with almond meal flour and fresh fruit
  • Substitute frozen for fresh ingredients! (They are fresher and contain more nutrients)
  • Substitute shop bought products for home made ones!
  • Substitute white flour for almond or hazlenut meal 
  • Substitute those packets of chips for thinly sliced homemade sweet potato chips

There are so many things you can do to help turn this Christmas into a healthy one.
